Americas/Asia/Oceania Fellowship Program Begins January 2012

Disaster Science Fellows — On The Shoulders Of Giants
Two graduate fellows of the Academy of Emergency Management discuss why they chose to pursue the fellowship, the time commitment required and how emergency management theory helps them in their day-to-day roles.

IAEM America and International Network of Women in Emergency Management (INWEM) members receive a 10% discount on tuition as a benefit of membership!

All Disaster Science Fellows beginning September 2011 will be given a Kindle with a dozen of the Fellowship books already on it as part of our "Green" initative.

    The Details:

    What Technology is Needed?

The only technology that is needed is a computer with a high-speed internet connection, and a headset with microphone.  Our web platform will be the award-winning Backpack by 37 Signals ("Backpack is GREAT!  I wish I had this system in many other classes/online learning opportunities in the past!"-Disaster Science Fellowship Participant) and our communications platform will be Skype.  Other than that, there is no additional software to download, and discussions will be accessible at a click of a button.  The goal is to make this as technically simple as possible!

    Books

All books may be purchased directly through Amazon.com, and are arranged according to the order in which they will be read.  Almost half of the books are available in Kindle format and some may be available as an audiobook through Audible.com.  We strongly suggest that you order the books a month at a time, at least a month in advance to ensure that you have them available.  The Academy will also buy your books back, discounted for use, at the end of each Fellowship.

    Cost

The cost for the Disaster Science Fellowship is $5,000.00 USD, payable in five monthly installments.  Payment will be quickest and easiest through Paypal, although other methods may be arranged.

    Refund Policy

Participants who withdraw within 1 week of any scheduled payment will be refunded that payment only. Participants in the Disaster Science Fellowship who fail to maintain an average grade of high pass or better for two consecutive months will be dismissed without refund.
